To make gold-plated jewelry, we start with brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. This material is appreciated for its robustness, its malleability and its hypoallergenic nature.
After shaping the jewelry, a thin layer of gold is applied by an electrolysis process. We use 18 carat gold and apply a thickness of 3 microns.
The carat indicates the purity of precious metals. 18-karat gold jewelry is extremely durable and its high gold content reduces the risk of allergies. They are also particularly resistant to breakage, corrosion, scratches and wear.
A micron is a unit of measurement for the thickness of gold on the jewelry. In France, a piece of jewelry must have at least 3 microns of gold to be considered “gold plated”.
